Ready to go on a field trip without ever leaving your seat? This virtual field trip of Greek, Roman and Virginian architecture will let you do just that. First we'll compare the styles of the ancient Romans and Greeks and then look for evidence of their work in the design of buildings in Colonial Virginia.
As you know from your work with Mrs. Usova, there are three basic types of columns in classical greek architecture: the doric, ionic and corinthian. Notice the differences in the sketch to the left.
Did you also know there are three parts to the top of each kind of column? See the sketch to the right.
In this Virtual Field Trip, you will first examine examples of both the Greek and Roman styles of architecture. Then you will have the opportunity to look for the qualities of these ancient styles in buildings from the Colonial era of Virginia. You'll be able to copy images into your scrapbook and keep them for use later on in your studies. Good luck and have fun discovering!
