Volume 2, Issue 18 - January 22, 2006"The 2006 winter games in Turin, Italy are almost here! The original capital of Italy, Turin (aka Torino) is nestled at the base of the Italian Alps in the Piedmont region. Full of history, art, culture and natural beauty, it is a superb location for the 2006 Olympics.
One of the best ways to bring the Olympics into the classroom is to prepare for the games and then follow them live through Web-based resources. This can be done using a combination of online references, travel services, news sites and interactive tools like blogs and wikis. Using this week’s focus of Turin, students can plan their own travel itinerary as if they were going to the games themselves. What a great way to utilize many of the important skills students master in the curriculum in a high-interest, real-world application!
