Hi Walter,I have done some extensive reading on Gardner and MI theory and I have yet to find where Gardner definately adds the ninth intelligence 'Existential' to the list.Reading articles written by Gardner dating to mid 2003 he himself only states that there are Eight definate intelligences and has not yet committed himself to adding the ninth - Existential Intelligence to the list. He will go so far as to say he may have Eight and half intelligences but says that more research needs to be done in order to add existential intelligence into the list. As quoted by him in a paper prepared in April 2003 titled "Multiple Intelligences After Twenty Years" he says - "So far, I am sticking to my 8 1/2 intelligences but I can readily forsee a time when the list could grow, or when the boundaries among the intelligences might be reconfigured."I am interested as to why you have stated that there are definately nine and would like to know where you have obtained this information from? Even the Gardner School only teaches using the eight recognised intelligences (2004) and I have not found in any other literature by Gardner (including on his website) or other sources, where MI theory lists existential as a definate ninth intelligence as defined by Gardner?The reason I would like some clarification on this point is because I am currently doing an assignment on this topic. I have no doubt that Existential deserves to be listed as the ninth intelligence and that there will probably be many more eventually listed as well but I would just like to know where and when Gardner stated that is was a definate ninth intelligence?I hope that you will be able to assist.With a smile,-Kate |
