Childhood

Two year old Barry with his mother

Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Hawaii, Honolulu.  His father, Barack Obama, Sr. was from Kenya, and his mother Ann Dunham, a Caucasian,  was from Kansas.

At the age of two, young Barack’s parents separated and later divorced.  Barry (his nickname) lived with his mother, step-dad, and sister in Jakarta, Indonesia  from the time that he was six years of age until he was ten.

At the age of ten, Barry moved to Hawaii where he lived with his grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Dunham.  Because his mother traveled a great deal, his grandparents raised him.

Two-year old Barry, who would become the 44th President of the United States, with his mother, Ann.
