From the very beginning of his quest for the Presidency, President Obama believed he could “change” the electoral map.  Change would mean winning states that were long considered Republican “wins”.

On November 4, 2008, President Obama beat Senator McCain by winning 52% to 46% of the popular vote.  He did indeed change the electoral map, with 364 electoral votes to McCain’s 174.
