George Washington: Continental Congress

On September 5, 1774 the first Continental Congress met in Philadelphia. George Washington was one of the seven men there.  He represented the colony Virginia.   The representatives for each colony came and talked about how to stop the law making by the  British Parliament.  They talked about it and made speeches about their opinions.  George just sat and listened to the other men talk about their opinions. George did a lot of thinking while he listened.  The Delegates listened to what George had to say because they had  learned of his respected military reputation. Finally they decided to boycott British goods.  Then on July 4 is when t he Continental Congress decided to sign the Declaration of Independence.  Washington and the others then decided to send the Declaration to the king.  We are in war now thought George, and he waited for the English to come.
At the Continental Congress George was chosen to lead the army that the colonies much needed. Now George was referred to as General Washington.  He was head of all the soldiers from all the colonies.  George was going to be fighting against his own English King's soldiers. This was very hard for George to do for he had been a good Englishman for 43 years.  But Washington did what was right, and that was to fight the English.  For the English had not been fair to the colonist.

George Washington also served in the second Continental Congress. They met in May of 1775.  Then George Washington was appointed commanded-in-chief of the Continental Army.  So instead of serving in the Second Continental Congress he was the commander in chief for the war.
