George Washington

Early Years

George Washington was born January 2nd 1732 in Popes Creek, Virginia.   When he was young he had many battles with his teeth. He had wooden teeth. His mouth was always bulgy. It was bulgy even more when he laughed and  when  he smiled.   George looked like he was sneezing when he smiled. George was a lonely child. He had a half brother named Lawrence. At the age of eleven, George moved in with his half brother because his parents died. After George's half brother Lawrence died George learned how to be a surveyor. He improved on his skills while the two men surveyed Fairfax's five million acres. By 1749 he was working as a surveyor in Virginia's Culpepper County. In time a career in surveying lead to military service. George's first wife was Martha Dandbridge Custis. George Washington became the United States' first president in 1789. He was later elected to a second term.
