Julane Crabtree

Julane is an enormous asset to our college - without her, we would not have the extensive online developmental math program that our students now enjoy.  She is responsible for the development of 6 online courses and continually improves these by utilizing updates in content and teaching methodologies.

Julane engages her students through visual cues and provides notes, handouts, links to external sites, and one-on-one teaching (through e-mail and phone).  To encourage student participation, she has incorporated blogs, discussions, online chats, and media at various times - all in an attempt to make the students feel welcome and at home in the online environment.  She is always willing to try something new and is currently working on web-cams and using camtasia to improve instruction in her course.  She developed the online courses for our developmental math sequence and mentors other faculty teaching these courses.  She willingly shares all her work with the math division as well as training faculty across the campus.

Most of us shamelessly "borrow" Julane's work and incorporate it into our classes - many of us began teaching online by copying her courses verbatim and then modifying them as we wished.  She always shares her work (handouts, assessments, notes) freely and also helps us in developing our own.  For example, she is developing a Sharepoint site this summer where she will upload her word docs so that we may have easy access to them for our courses.

Julane is constantly is on the look-out for new technologies and, after taking training, brings these ideas and training to us. Finally, Julane has received many communications from students expressing their success in finally understanding math and commending her for her time and efforts to work with them individually.  She is a force in our division for both student and faculty success in online learning.
