Dear Mr. Swenson,

Our class really enjoyed following you on the Iditarod race. You did a great job and we are proud that we selected you to follow during the race. We went onto the internet to decide who our class should follow for the Iditarod and that’s when we found that you had won 5 times! We voted if you should be our class musher, and you were.

During the race, a local businessman named Bob Jones came to our classroom to tell us about the Iditarod. We found out he rode his snowmobile the entire trail of the Iditarod five times, even on one of the years you had won. He gave us facts about the dogs and how the mushers train them. When he told us about the trail, he said that there is a northern route and a southern route. We got to see pictures of the trail and checkpoints from his slide show. He also wore his Iditarod T-shirt with your name and picture on it. At the end of his visit, he gave us cloth mittens that he picked up from the trail that the mushers used for their dogs.

We are working on some of the fun projects you sent for us to do. Hopefully we will see you next year on the trail so we can follow you again!

Sincerely,

Students from Mr. Richter’s Sixth Grade Class
